NOW HIRING CRANE OPERATOR

Crane Operator is responsible for operating mobile and all-terrain cranes to lift, move, position and reposition loads.

Responsible for operating mobile and all-terrain cranes to lift, move, position and reposition loads. Ensures load is
safely attached to crane before bringing it down. Has an understanding and working knowledge of computer software
required to operate cranes. Assists with Construction Crew in between crane service jobs, as directed.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the crane skillfully and safely in conformance with OSHA regulations.
  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload; determine suitability of the supporting ground and surface for loads.
  • Place blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads or direct others to do same.
  • Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify boom for high lifting.
  • Lift, position and place machinery, equipment or other large objects at construction sites, industrial facilities or other third-party jobs.
  • Manipulate or depress crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal or hand signal instructions.
  • Move levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis to raise and lower crane boom and to raise and lower load-line.
  • Work with in precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Load or unload bundles, equipment or materials to/from trucks; move bundles, equipment or materials to storage or work areas using material handling equipment.
  • Material handling and storage; heaving lifting (50-90 lbs.), pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, walking, forward/above shoulder reaching and balancing for long periods of time; performing strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of how to inspect crane for safety issues on a daily basis.
  • Skilled in determining if any parts are malfunctioning.
  • Knowledge of iPad technology to complete and upload job tickets, trip sheets and other necessary paperwork.
  • Ability to inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables, as needed.
  • Skilled in cleaning, lubricating and maintaining mechanisms such as cables, pulleys or grappling devices, making repairs as necessary.
  • Ability to judge depth perception of several objects to determine which is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object.
  • Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage.
  • Good working knowledge of rigging set up, signals and repair.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in basic construction.
  • Review daily work schedules to determine and prioritize work load.
  • Apply safe shut-down and securing procedures.
  • Able to climb and work safely at heights; hear/see/understand instructions from the ground.
  • Ability to work safely in tight, restricted spaces.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete daily activities according to work schedules.
  • Maintain a clean job site; pick up/care for/store all tools, equipment and machinery and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.

  • Excellent communication skills – reading/writing/verbal English for efficiency in understanding directions and work assignments, to follow and promote safe work practices, communicate with customers and to prepare and submit reports and time keeping.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience
  • NCCCO Certified, CDL-A and High School graduate or G.E.D. required.
  • Experience in agricultural or construction industries helpful.
  • One to three years of experience working with cranes and rigging preferred.
  • Experienced in proper use of tools, equipment and materials to assemble, install, dismantle, modify, repair and maintain machinery and facilities for smooth and continuous operation.
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.
  • Experience in verbal and hand signals to guide crane operators preferred.
 
Work Context
  • Attend work as scheduled.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.
  • Must be able to stand, climb, bend, kneel, and reach; lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object. (Occasionally lift 90 lbs., frequently lift 50 lbs.)
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  • The ability to time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Excellent stamina is required.
 

Special Requirements

  • Valid commercial driver’s license required.
  • NCCCO Certified boom truck and all-terrain operators preferred.
  • Pass PPPO, General Construction Physical and Drug Screen.
  • *Pro Crane Crane Operators that are sublet out to EBM Construction report to the Construction Job Foreman.
  • Must be 18 or older.
